In my family, I’m famous for my love of cooking and baking. What I’m not known for, however, is my neatness in the kitchen. Any time I use flour, little white clouds pop up all over. And whenever I stir something on the cooktop, a little bit of it always seems to end up on the cooktop.
For instance, during Christmas, I made toffee—a tradition at my house. But as I was stirring the brown sugar mixture, a huge blob jumped out of the pot and hardened into a burnt chunk on impact. Yum.
When it comes to cleaning your cooktops, remember that different cooktops require special attention. Brush up on cleaning a gas cooktop, a smooth glass top ceramic cooktop, and a black glass top cooktop.
While it’s easy to know when to clean my cooktop since the mess is right in front of me, I rarely check the inside of my oven for food splatters—and I’m sure there are plenty. To clean your oven, try these suggestions from Appliance.com. Some ovens come with self-cleaning features. The key is to use it sparingly to save energy—and when you do use it, do so right after cooking so the oven doesn’t have to work as hard to heat up. For ovens without self-cleaning features, try this eco-friendly cleaning solution.
Familiar with the “snap, crackle, pop” sound that comes from your microwave when you reheat yesterday’s leftovers? I am, and it usually means whatever I’m making has left its mark by splattering the interior of the microwave. But removing these splatters isn’t too hard. Clean your microwave and get rid of food smells with this DIY Life idea. Or, if you’re looking to put vinegar to good use, try this idea.
Until tomorrow,
